The Kings Speech

What an absolutely fantastic movie!!!
For me a 4 1/2 out of 5

This movie is a must see . . . stars Geoffrey Rush, a local from Everton Park, Brisbane, for those who don't know where Brisbane is, it's in Australia :). His claim to fame was the movie “Shine” based on the life of pianist David Helfgott.

Anyway I am getting off the track here . . . The King’s Speech is a story about Berty (who later became King George VI).

Berty is played by Colin Firth (from the very powerful movie "A Single Man", and he does a fantastic job playing the part in The Kings Speech!

Berty has a very bad speech impediment, this is especially bad when he does public speaking.

Bertys wife (later to become known to us all as the Queen’s Mother, you know the one who always smiles), anyway Berty’s wife (actor Helena Bonham Carter) makes an appointment with Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush) a commoner who is an Australian speech therapist living in London.

And the story goes on from there . . .

There are some really great interactions between Berty, Lionel and Queen Elizabeth . . . a warm, realistic, sometimes hilarious and deeply moving story.

The photography is great, nice lighting, great angles and generally well done (not the way I like my steaks)

The movie also gives some insight into Royal life, with a child Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret.

The movie also gives some insight into the abdication of Berty’s brother because of his love for Mrs Simpson.

Go and see it . . . and let me know what you think.
